Maroondah Electrical Data Solar Vic

Electrician Cheltenham

Your Cheltenham house has picked up a dishwasher, two split systems and an induction cooktop since somebody first wired it. Nobody told the switchboard. Since 1998 Maroondah Electrical & Data has been putting a number on exactly that, for houses all over Melbourne's south-east. Whether yours copes is a question of maximum demand, not the age of the cable. That sum starts from one fact: a household never runs everything together. Our electrician does the reading standing at your meter box, under electrical contractor licence REC 27611, and the fixed price follows it. Ring 03 9738 2000 for a Cheltenham electrician, and the quote itself is free.

What Cheltenham Locals Say About Our Electrical Services

review quote

We just want to say how happy we are with the work you did to install the 4 reverse cycle air conditioners. As business owners employing 20 staff, we appreciate good service. Dean was great, arriving on time a day after we settled. He was very clear and transparent on the outcome. The installers were all very nice people and had great attention to detail. The electrician even fixed a loose tile on our roof!

Dean mentioned that one unit would have to have an internal duct, but the installer hid that and also re-routed another to be more aesthetically pleasing. Something they didn’t have to do, but the result was excellent. All trades collected every bit of rubbish and left our place perfect. We give 100% for price, neatness, attention to detail, communication, friendliness, and a great installation.

Why Your Cheltenham House Is Not as Overloaded as It Looks

Add up the rating printed on every appliance and nearly any home looks past its limit. The oven, the kettle, the air conditioner and the charger never pull their maximum in one minute. Maximum demand allows for that. It produces a single figure for the whole installation. Our electrician holds that figure against three things: the main switch, the supply cable arriving at the property, and the ways left on the board.

Cheltenham keeps a lot of its mid-century family homes close to the way somebody built them, on blocks with space either side. A house like that ran a much shorter list when it was new, so the answer comes back smaller than the question sounds. A dedicated circuit for the appliance that started the conversation. Or a board with somewhere to put the next one.

Our electrician opens the board first: how many circuits, what protection stands in front of them, and how much supply the property started with. On a Cheltenham home the list of work runs to:

  • Extra power points and lighting in rooms the original circuits never reached, plus ceiling fans indoors and out
  • A replacement switchboard with ways to spare, or a bigger supply behind it
  • A circuit of its own for a car charger, heat pump hot water or a reverse cycle air conditioner
  • Home automation, so the lighting, the heating and the power all answer to a phone
  • Rewiring where the cable has aged out, plus the rough-in and fit-off that split a renovation into two visits
  • Smoke alarms and safety switches, plus a safety assessment that names what every circuit protects
  • Fault finding when something trips and the board gives no reason why

Maroondah Electrical & Data Keeps No Office in Kingston

Maroondah Electrical & Data works well outside Kingston, and doesn’t run a Cheltenham branch. Our electrician drives down from 6 Royan Place, Bayswater North, Victoria 3153, a single building holding both the office and the workshop. The family that started the business in 1998 still owns it, and there are three of them: Glenn Carmody, Dean Carmody, Stuart Lancaster. More than 50,000 completed projects stand behind them, on a count we keep ourselves.

A council boundary follows the railway line and Charman Road through Cheltenham, Victoria 3192, dividing the suburb between the City of Kingston and the City of Bayside. That split changes nothing about the wiring or the booking, since a state registration governs the work, in Cheltenham as in Moorabbin, which lies wholly inside Kingston. That registration is electrical contractor licence REC 27611. Whoever attends a Cheltenham job also carries a personal licence and their own insurance. A Cheltenham address and a job for an electrician in Moorabbin each answer to their own switchboard. Our about us page introduces the rest of the team, and 03 9738 2000 reaches the office.

One Trench Down the Back of a Cheltenham Block

Work out past the back door still comes back to the figure at the front. A studio with lighting, heating and a couple of machines running in it is not a separate property. Its load joins the house’s, on one supply, so our electrician asks what will live in the building before pricing how to feed it.

What goes out is one cable to a small board inside the outbuilding, plus a way to switch that whole building off from the house. The studio then runs on circuits of its own, so work out there doesn’t have to interrupt the house.

Opening the ground costs more than the cable you lay in it, so our electrician uses the trench once. Where you want a network or phone point at that outbuilding, its conduit goes in on the one dig, along a path of its own. Communications cable doesn’t run hard against mains cable. Computer data cabling and the circuit feeding the equipment come back in one quote.

A Cheltenham Townhouse and a Shopfront Ask Different Questions

A townhouse or apartment built along the Cheltenham transport routes has had that sum done recently, and against a longer list. It tends to leave room for the first thing an owner adds. What changes instead is the boundary of the job. The board on your own wall is yours. The supply feeding it and the meter position in the common areas belong to the building, so we arrange access with whoever manages it before the visit.

A Cheltenham shop or office mid-fitout needs lighting and power set out for the new floor plan, plus a switchboard sized for what that plan will draw. Premises carrying on as they are take the commercial and industrial round instead: test and tagging, emergency and exit lighting, telephone systems, and maintenance booked ahead of a failure. Agents letting Cheltenham houses put smoke alarms and safety checks through the one team.

Three Cheltenham Questions That Start at the Meter Box

Does a mid-century Cheltenham house need a full rewire before it can run more?

A mid-century house rarely needs a rewire just to run more. The cable in the walls can test sound while the board in front of it has no way left for another circuit. On a house kept close to original, our electrician finds the limit at the board far more than in the wiring behind the plaster.

We want to add a car charger. How does that change the sum?

A charger enters the demand figure as a load in its own right, and it's one of the few that draws steadily for hours rather than in bursts. That's why it takes a circuit of its own. It is also why our electrician reads the board and the incoming supply before you order the charger.

Can the power and the network cable to a studio out the back go in together?

The power circuit and the network cable go in on one dig, each in its own conduit. Splitting them across two visits means paying for that trench twice, and the later cable takes whatever room the first one leaves.

A Cheltenham house wired for one household's list will nearly always carry another one's. What you can't tell from the kitchen is how much of it fits into a single visit.

For that, ring 03 9738 2000. Say what you want the Cheltenham house to run, or write it on our contact page, and the quote is free.
