Maroondah Electrical Data Solar Vic

Electrician Mornington

Your Mornington cottage has a wall you want a new power point on. In an original beach cottage on the Mornington Peninsula, the lining often has no cavity behind it, so there's nowhere inside that wall to drop a cable. Our electrician checks the two spaces that can carry one instead: the floor below and the roof above. Maroondah Electrical & Data has threaded cable through houses of that age across Victoria since 1998, under electrical contractor licence REC 27611. An electrician drives down to Mornington to read those spaces in person, and a written quote follows the visit. Neither costs you anything. Ring 03 9738 2000 and name the room the point has to reach.

What Mornington Locals Say About Our Electrical Services

review quote

We just want to say how happy we are with the work you did to install the 4 reverse cycle air conditioners. As business owners employing 20 staff, we appreciate good service. Dean was great, arriving on time a day after we settled. He was very clear and transparent on the outcome. The installers were all very nice people and had great attention to detail. The electrician even fixed a loose tile on our roof!

Dean mentioned that one unit would have to have an internal duct, but the installer hid that and also re-routed another to be more aesthetically pleasing. Something they didn’t have to do, but the result was excellent. All trades collected every bit of rubbish and left our place perfect. We give 100% for price, neatness, attention to detail, communication, friendliness, and a great installation.

Your Cottage Has Two Cable Routes, and the Wall Is Neither

A cable needs one continuous path from the switchboard to the point you want, and in an original cottage the wall rarely offers one. Where the lining is timber, or where the builder left no cavity behind it, there’s nothing to drop a cable down. The subfloor and the roof space do that work instead. So our electrician lifts a floor trap and puts a head into the ceiling before pricing anything.

That reading sorts a short job from a slow one. A point on an external wall with a reachable subfloor under it is a short run. Put that point on an internal wall with a closed ceiling above, and the work changes shape.

Mornington’s housing runs from original beach cottages through to houses rebuilt to a far higher specification, and the two ask opposite questions. In a cottage the route is the constraint. In a rebuilt house the routes already run inside the walls, so the question becomes which one comes nearest the work. In the clifftop streets near the Esplanade, where much of that older stock stands, the shortest path leaves the building altogether. The cable runs out in conduit and back in at the point, and that stretch books with the rest.

Everything else in a Mornington house takes one of those two routes as well:

  • Lighting and power in the rooms the first wiring left short, plus ceiling fans indoors and out
  • Rewiring a circuit at a time, grouped by the rooms that share a route
  • A replacement switchboard, more power into the property behind it, and three-phase power where a single phase has stopped being enough
  • Fault finding on a point that has died or a circuit that lets go, plus the electrical wear and tear an old cottage collects
  • Smoke alarms fitted and proved on the day, with a safety assessment reporting on the circuits behind them
  • A car charger, heat pump hot water or reverse cycle air conditioning, each one read against what a cottage board can carry

What Goes In While the Floor Traps Are Up

Lifting the floor traps is much of the work in a cottage, and a phone or data cable takes the routes the power takes. So one trip under there can carry both cables rather than one.

Where the run comes up from below, the outlet lands near the skirting rather than halfway up the wall. Worth knowing before you settle which corner the desk goes in. Computer data cabling through a cottage counts as licensed work, and so does a phone and internet point in the room the house now works from. Telephone systems at a trading address belong there too, run by the electricians already handling your power.

Tell Maroondah Electrical & Data How Old the Cottage Is

Say which room, how old the house is and what you want in it when you book. The electrician coming out has to reach the parts of the building nobody uses. Maroondah Electrical & Data started in 1998 as a family business and has stayed one, under three owners: Glenn Carmody, Dean Carmody, Stuart Lancaster. It keeps its own tally of finished work, and that tally now reads past 50,000 projects.

6 Royan Place, Bayswater North, Victoria 3153 is office and workshop in one, and our electricians travel from it to Mornington. Electrical contractor licence REC 27611 is the registration behind the work, and it’s a number any contractor should be able to give you. The electrician who turns up carries a licence of their own as well, and the business insures the electrical and data work it does. Our about us page has the rest of the team.

Work at a Mornington Address Other People Use

If the Mornington address is a shop, a cafe or an office on Main Street, trading decides when the electrical work happens. That means lighting and power for the floor plan, and a switchboard sized to what the plan draws. Emergency and exit lighting goes in where the building needs it, with cabling for the phones and the network. Scheduled maintenance and test and tagging come round on a date rather than on a fault, and the rest of the commercial and industrial list travels with them.

Where the cottage is let, one attendance can cover three things: smoke alarms fitted and tested, a safety assessment of the installation, and whatever the last guest reported. Agencies looking after Mornington properties book it that way too.

Where an Original Cottage Changes the Answer

There's no roof space over the original rooms of our cottage. Can we still put a point where we want it?

A closed ceiling doesn't end it. The run comes through the subfloor instead and up at skirting level. Where neither space opens up, the outside route takes over. Our electrician settles which of the three applies once the floor traps are up.

Do we have to rewire the whole cottage at once?

No. Each circuit is separate work with its own start and finish, so a cottage goes in parts. A safety assessment puts the state of each circuit in writing, and that report decides what happens first.

We let the Mornington house out through the year. When can the work happen?

Between bookings, and the length of the gap decides what fits. Smoke alarms, testing and a safety assessment suit a short window. Lifting a floor to put a new run in doesn't, so we size the stage to the window you have.

Anything else you want done in the cottage is worth naming before the floor goes back down.

Ring 03 9738 2000 with the age of the cottage and the rooms on your list, or write both onto our contact page.
