Maroondah Electrical Data Solar Vic

Electrician Glen Iris

The wiring in your Glen Iris property has a date on it, even when nothing in the rooms says so. A 1920s Californian bungalow, a post-war home, a townhouse and an apartment finished in the last few years each hand an electrician a different installation. So our electrician reads yours at the address, and the price follows from that. Telling those installations apart across Melbourne's eastern suburbs has been Maroondah Electrical & Data's work since 1998, under electrical contractor licence REC 27611. We set the figure before the work starts, and quoting it is free. Call 03 9738 2000 for an electrician in Glen Iris, whether it's a house, a business or an investment property.

What Glen Iris Locals Say About Our Electrical Services

review quote

We just want to say how happy we are with the work you did to install the 4 reverse cycle air conditioners. As business owners employing 20 staff, we appreciate good service. Dean was great, arriving on time a day after we settled. He was very clear and transparent on the outcome. The installers were all very nice people and had great attention to detail. The electrician even fixed a loose tile on our roof!

Dean mentioned that one unit would have to have an internal duct, but the installer hid that and also re-routed another to be more aesthetically pleasing. Something they didn’t have to do, but the result was excellent. All trades collected every bit of rubbish and left our place perfect. We give 100% for price, neatness, attention to detail, communication, friendliness, and a great installation.

Working on a 1920s Bungalow or a Post-War Glen Iris Home

Your Glen Iris house might be a 1920s Californian bungalow, or one of the post-war homes that followed. In both, the wiring has been added to over the decades rather than replaced. Owners renovate a kitchen, push a room out the back, and plug in appliances nobody was wiring for when the house went up. The installation ends up assembled in layers.

On a house of that age the list runs to:

  • A new switchboard and a power upgrade, with rewiring where the cable behind it has run out of life
  • Fault finding on a circuit that trips, dims or drops out without warning
  • Lights and power points added room by room, ceiling fans, and smoke alarms
  • Safety assessments on a house nobody has checked since its last renovation
  • An EV charger, heat pump hot water or home automation on a board that predates all three
  • Computer data cabling and telephone systems, plus a phone and internet point in a room that has none

The Switchboard Is Where the Layers Meet

Open the board in one of those houses and the whole history is on one panel. Circuits added at different times carry different protection, and labelling that was accurate the day somebody wrote it rarely survives two renovations. So our electrician tests what each circuit actually feeds and what condition it is in, then writes the price against that reading. A rewire quoted before that test is a guess.

Outside Work Near Gardiners Creek and the Parkland

Glen Iris fronts Gardiners Creek and the parkland along it. Garden lighting, a power point on an outside wall and a supply run out to a garage all come up here. An outdoor circuit needs different parts from an indoor one. That means weather-rated fittings, cable and enclosures that stand up to the weather, and protection chosen for the conditions the circuit lives in. Outdoor ceiling fans over a deck fall under those rules as well.

Booking a Glen Iris Job Through Maroondah Electrical & Data

Maroondah Electrical & Data is family-owned, and three people built it in 1998: Glenn Carmody, Dean Carmody, Stuart Lancaster. Work here runs under electrical contractor licence REC 27611, and every electrician who attends holds a licence and carries insurance. Glen Iris straddles two councils: Boroondara north of Gardiners Creek, Stonnington south of it. Either way, the booking works the same. Our electricians work out of a single address, 6 Royan Place, Bayswater North, Victoria 3153. Properties on the eastern edge of the suburb shade into Ashburton. Which side of that line yours falls on changes nothing, because an electrician in Ashburton comes from the same office and the same number. Our about us page sets out how a job runs from the first call.

Where a Cable Can Run in a Newer Glen Iris Building

In a townhouse, a unit or one of the newer Glen Iris apartments, a new point or a data outlet is a question of route first. An older house hands an electrician a roof space and a floor void, and cable runs through both without much coming apart. A newer building doesn’t have either in any useful quantity. The path is whatever the builder left behind: an existing conduit, a service riser, or a surface duct when there is nothing else. Which of the three the building has decides the shape of the job, and our electrician confirms it on site.

The switchboard settles the other half. A new circuit needs a spare way in the board and capacity behind it. In a unit or an apartment, the builder sized that board to the original list. Our electrician reads both at the one visit: what the board can still carry, and where a cable can go.

Putting the Data Points In While the Power Work Is Open

Data cable has the route problem too, and the time to run it is while a wall or a ceiling is already open. The electricians who run your power circuits also quote and install computer data cabling, telephone systems and phone and internet points. One team, one route, planned once. Book the two separately and the second job starts by reopening what the first one closed.

Fitting Out a Glen Iris Cafe or Consulting Room

In a cafe, a shop or a consulting room, the power and the cabling belong on one quote. Glen Iris has a good run of cafes and coffee shops. A hospitality fitout wants the lighting and power positioned for the finished floor plan. Behind it, the switchboard needs room for what the equipment will draw, and three-phase power where the plant calls for it.

If you’re already trading, the list is a different one. Emergency and exit lighting, test and tagging and scheduled maintenance all sit on a booking calendar. A failure is a poor way to find out one was due. Telephone systems and computer data cabling go in beside the power, and our commercial and industrial page carries the full list.

From the First Call to the Certificate on a Glen Iris Job

Ring 03 9738 2000, or send your details through the enquiry form, and we’ll go through the problem and book a time that suits you. An electrician attends and assesses the job. Where it’s appropriate, that visit also covers a full safety assessment of the property, which turns up faults before they grow into something larger. The quote follows: free, no obligation, and a fixed price for the work described instead of an hourly rate. Interest free finance is available on eligible work. Once you approve the figure we schedule the work and complete it on time, and what we carry out is certified and guaranteed.

Bungalow, post-war home, townhouse, apartment: four Glen Iris front doors with four different installations behind them, and our electrician turns up expecting the difference.

Two details settle a Glen Iris quote. Call 03 9738 2000 with the era of the building and what you want it to run, or write both into the enquiry form.

What Glen Iris Owners Ask About Their Own Wiring

Our Glen Iris apartment has no roof space and no floor void. Where would a new cable run?

A newer apartment or townhouse offers an electrician far fewer paths than an older house, so a new cable takes one the building already has. Which one it takes changes what the job costs, so our electrician looks at the building before quoting.

The labels on our bungalow switchboard don't match what the circuits do. Does that hold up the work?

Labels stop matching the circuits in any house renovated more than once, and they don't hold up the work. Our electrician traces what each circuit really feeds during the quoting visit.

Our internet is weak in the back rooms of a Glen Iris house. Is that a cabling job?

Weak internet in the back rooms is either the connection into the property or the cabling inside it, and the cabling is ours. A data point can go into the room that needs one, and the electrical work is the moment to run it.
